Here you find all the information you need to get to the Carlsten Fortress
Carlsten fortress is located on the island of Marstrand, about 45 kilometers northwest of Gothenburg. You can get here by car, bus or boat. Since cars are prohibited on the island of Marstrand, you can park on Koön and then take the ferry Marstrand. Koön is located 100-150 m east of Marstrand and ferry crossing takes only a few minutes.

Go by car
Description from Gothenburg: Take E6 towards Oslo. At Kungälv (20 km), take the road 168 and follow signs Marstrand for about 25 kilometers to Marstrand-Koon.
Parking
At the entrance to Marstrand-Koön you'll find to several different parking lots. The principle is that the closer to the ferry you park, the more expensive is the fee. During winter, most parking lots for free - see instructions on the spot. |

Go by bus
Bus 302 and 312 runs daily from Nils Ericsson terminal at Gothenburg Central Station. Bus 312 is an express bus that takes about 55 minutes and bus 302 takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes since it also passes through Kungalv. The Express bus has the most departures during the summer but also some departures in the winter. The buses have their terminus at Arvidsvik, on Koön only 50 meters from the ferry situation. The Ferry
 The ferry between Koon - Marstrand go all day and have time table number 322. During the day the ferry departues four times / hour and at night it goes every half hour after the call. Tickets purchased at the kiosk / snack bar next to the ferry situation ticket machines or in the ticet maschines outside. Would these be closed resolved ticket on the ferry. The ticket currently costs 20 kr for adults and 15 kr for children including the return trip. The ticket needs to be stamped and presented at the journey from Koon to Marstrand.

NOTE! If you go by bus, the bus ticket includes the cost to the ferry to Marstrand and you do not solve the ferry ticket.
 Find your way by foot from the ferry to the fortress
When you arricve at the island, you go to the right, along the quay. After about 200 meters, turn left onto Kungsgatan. Then, just follow this straight up until you reach the fortress. The last bit on Main Street is a steep hill. Once you're up there you'll find your location on the map on the plate. Turning then to the right and follow the road until you reach a door marked 23 (No. 3 on the map). Behind door 23 you'll find entrance in the brick house (No 4 on the map). |
